Bilbao has been recognized as the 10th best large European city in foreign direct investment attraction by the magazine fDi Intelligencebelonging to the prestigious editorial group Financial Times. The villa has been valued among 370 cities in Europe due to its economic strengths, business fabric and financial capacity, it is now considered a large city.

To date, the magazine had included Bilbao in its annual rankings as a medium-sized city, so placing it as a large city also means “advancement in the worldwide recognition of the city as an investment city and in its importance in the attraction and retention of Talent for the competitiveness of the Villa and its social well-being”, has remarked the City Council.

In this sense, he highlighted that, currently, the Island of Zorrotzaurre as an Urban Innovation District is “the great symbol for continuing to attract talent and foreign investment from Bilbao and the Territory”.

Besides, fDi Intelligence places the Basque Country in sixth place in the “Top 10 Mid-Sized European Regions Of The Future 2023 – Fdi Strategy”. The top three are occupied by Northern Ireland, Tuscany and the Greater Canton of Zurich respectively.

The publication is considered the “most relevant international magazine in analyzing the worldwide flows and trends of Foreign Direct Investment”, the City Council underlined, adding that the Financial Times is “the international leader in economic information and its recognitions constitute a hallmark of quality for the cities that receive it”.
