This afternoon the Congress Production Commission discussed the prediction made in Bills 712/2021-CR, 828/2021-CR, 1477/2021-CR, 2236/2021-CR, which, with a substitute text, proposes the General Fishing Law, however, a preliminary issue was approved that puts the approval of this important law on hold.
Congressman José Enrique Jeri Ore of the Somos Perú caucus proposed voting for a previous question because he argued that the opinion of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on the proposal among other observations.
In this regard, the president of the commission, Jaime Quito, indicated that the MEF was asked for its opinion on four occasions, but received no answers. He added that the request will be made again since the previous question was approved, and that until tomorrow all the congressmen who are members of the commission will have a deadline to send their observations.
It should be remembered that the initiative aims to establish the regulatory framework for fishing activity in order to ensure the use sustainable use of hydrobiological resources as a source of food security, employment and income, optimizing economic benefits in harmony with the conservation of the environment and biodiversity.
The president of the commission, Jaime Quito, specified that this proposal is not being approved in a hurry, on the contrary, it has been the only commission that has taken several months to gather the opinions of all the interested parties, fishermen’s unions, entities public and social organizations.
It should be noted that on this occasion all the members of the commission appeared and most participated in the previous debate that lasted for two hours.
