One of the promises of the current Government is to put the reform of the pension system on track, which has been postponed for several years. For it, the Executive Branch would be enlisting two proposals that aim at the same objective.
The MEF would be the one that would have its proposal most advanced, which would make it known this month, as previously mentioned by the head of the sector, Alex Contreras. For her part, the Multisectoral Commission in charge of issuing a report on the Peruvian pension system and its proposal for a pension system would have its initiative ready in May.
“The Minister of Economy has offered that a pension reform proposal will be presented this March. (…) In addition, the Executive created a Multisectoral Commission that is working on PCM and for the month of May it would also have a proposal for pension reform. The idea is that the two collide and go in the same direction“, said Hillman Farfán, general manager of the ONP, during his intervention in the working group “Strengthening of the pension system”.
In the opinion of the ONP official, the proposal should take into account the Peruvian labor market, the lack of employment and the high turnover at work, added to the lack of contributions from affiliates in the pension system.
More than 2 million retirees do not receive a pension
According to the INEI, in Peru there are five million older adults, of whom more than two and a half million do not receive a retirement pensionrevealed the ONP official. Likewise, of the 13.6 million affiliates throughout the system, barely five million They are making contributions.
