Proinversión will award 10 electricity transmission projects for US$1.1 billion in 2023

The Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) reported that in 2023 it will award 10 electrical projects for more than US$1.1 billion to accompany the country’s economic growth. These will benefit 10 million people in 10 departments in its area of influence.

Following the award of the Enlace Ica – Poroma and ITC Enlace Cáclic – Jaén projects last January (US$132 million), the following will be the Piura Nueva – Frontera transmission line (US$217 million), the Huánuco-Tocache-Celendín-Trujillo Enlace and Enlace Celendín-Piura (US$611 million), and two groups that include 5 plans for US$164 million.

Additionally, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), within the framework of the 2023-2032 Transmission Plan, has commissioned Proinversión 18 electricity transmission projects that will require an investment of more than US$900 million. Its awards are scheduled for 2024.

The development of these electricity transmission projects will strengthen the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and will allow energy to be carried from the production centers (generation plants) to the consumption centers (companies and families) efficiently (lower costs) and with quality of service (without interruptions)”, commented the director of Proinversión’s Project Portfolio, Emerson Castro.

These investments will increase the reliability and capacity of the national electrical system that today it has almost 30,000 kilometers of transmission lines, of which 16,000 kilometers are high-voltage networks (highlighting 3,500 kilometers of 500 kV lines) necessary to minimize electrical energy losses and bring low-cost energy to areas with less availability of cheap energy.

More than 30 electrical project concession processes

From 2001 to 2022, Proinversión has carried out 37 concession processes for electrical projects (generation and transmission) through the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) modality, generating investment commitments for more than US$9,000 million; In the case of transmission lines, it has developed 32 processes, with which investments of more than US$3,800 million were executed.

The greatest impetus was given since 2006 after the promulgation of Law No. 28832 “Efficient Generation Law”, which implemented the Transmission Plan as a planning mechanism for investments in transmission with a horizon of 10 years and has the character of binding for investment decisions adopted during its validity.
