He Euskal Herria Pensioners Movement will begin this Monday a week of mobilizations to demand a minimum pension of 1,080 euroswith a “fasting-encierro”, round tables with experts in this field and protests that will conclude with the realization of a manifestation on Saturday, March 18, in Bilbao.

The mobilization program that they have designed will begin on monday 13 with a presentation in the concentration that the pensioners carry out weekly at noon before the Bilbao City Council, after which there will be an “accompaniment of the assembly to the fasting-encierro”, which they will carry out in a place in the Biscayan capital in shifts of 30 people each day.

For him tuesday 14 They plan to present a letter addressed to the Minister of Social Security, JosĂ© Luis Escrivá, to the Government Sub-Delegation, to transfer their claim for a minimum pension of 1,080 euros. Later, they will make a tour to the National Institute of Social Security to denounce “the problems of lack of attention.” On that day, there will also be a round table on the future of pensions and reforms in Europe.

He wednesday 15, they will carry out a march to the Delegation of the Basque Government to demand the complement of the pension to reach that minimum of 1,080 euros and deliver a letter addressed to Emakunde to denounce the gender gap. They will also hold a round table on measures to close the gender gap.

On the day of thursday 16, they will make a tour of the headquarters of the various parties to present them with a letter urging them to defend the minimum pension of 1,080 euros. Likewise, a new round table will be held, this time focused on pensioner platforms.

He Friday the 17th They will go to the Town Hall to call for participation in the march on Saturday the 18th, which will start at noon from Plaza Moyua in the Biscayan capital and to which unions, youth platforms and other social groups have been invited to join with their specific banners.

Minimum pension of 1,080 euros in 14 payments

The group of pensioners has called these new mobilizations after “more than five years demanding a minimum pension of 1,080 euros in 14 payments, considering that it meets the sufficiency criteria set out in the European Social Charter (CSE)”. As they have remarked, it is “a basic income so that a pensioner can access a decent life in old age and it is also an effective measure to reduce the gender gap in pensions”.

From the Pensioners Movement they have warned that, in Euskadi and Navarra, after including the last rise of 8.5%, 30% of pensioners “do not reach a pension of 800 euros per month”. Based on the figures they have provided, this situation affects 199,800 pensioners (155,000 Basques and 44,800 Navarrese), of whom 152,600 are women.
