French Development Agency will grant a credit line of S/325 million to the MiVivienda Fund

He French Development Agency Group (AFD), a public body that contributes to putting France’s development and international solidarity policy into practice, announced that it has S/1 billion available for loans for projects related to sustainable development in Peru during 2023. From these, more than S/300 million, will go to the MiVivienda Fund of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation.

According to Clement Larrue, director of the AFD in our country, the organization, through one of its affiliates, manages around S/152 million in outstanding loans to finance projects related to sustainable urban development, social and inclusive development, support for equality and ecological and environmental transition.

“On the other hand, the subsidiary Proparco, dedicated to financing the private sector, has S/103 million in outstanding loans to finance financial inclusion projects,” he added.

Financial inclusion and social housing

In addition, he explained that the main projects underway for this 2023 are oriented towards financial inclusion, social housing, and urban and environmental development.

Regarding financial inclusion, the AFD already has confirmed projects for 2023. “We have just granted a credit line of S/100 million soles to Caja Huancayo,” said Larrue. “The development of projects that have an impact on closing social and economic gaps will be the core of AFD’s action this 2023. Thus, another of our objectives is to support microfinance entities that serve the lowest segments of the population with responsible lending practices”, he stated.

In terms of social housing, and with the purpose of continuing to provide sustainable and accessible homes to thousands of Peruvians, this 2023 AFD will grant a new line of credit to the MiVivienda Fund for S/325 million. With this new funding, AFD’s commitment to the MiVivienda Fund amounts to more than S/1,220 million soles since 2016, which has allowed the construction of more than 70,000 sustainable homes. We hope that this new credit will allow a broad reach to households that still require access to housing”, stated Clement Larrue.

The AFD also announced that it will launch the public policy dialogue program with the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), which will make it possible to find reforms and technical solutions related to sustainable housing.

Protection of biodiversity and indigenous communities

At the regional level, the French entity promotes the trade and sustainable production of Piura cocoa through the Cacao BioAndino project, in alliance with the NGOs Progreso and Agrónomos y Veterinarios Sin Fronteras (AVSF).

The project receives an investment of more than S/10 million and supports 60 tasters, who are in charge of implementing new quality management practices with farmers.

This year it also plans to launch a new stage of the project Regional TerraIndígena, dedicated to the protection of human rights of indigenous communities and their environment. This new stage may have additional financial support of S/28.9 million.
