The European Commission will have contacts “in the coming weeks” with the French Government to request explanations for the delay in the high-speed connection with Spain through the Atlantic corridor, a project that forms part of the trans-European transport network of the European Union that should be completed in 2030 horizon.
“It is a matter that we are following very closely, in fact, we have planned contacts at a technical level with the French authorities in the coming weeks to clarify some matters,” said the spokesman for Transport of the Community Executive, Adalbert Jahnz, when asked by the intention of Paris delay the Bordeaux-Dax section until at least 2042 that will connect with the ‘Basque Y’.
The Atlantic corridor for rail transport of passengers and goods includes more than 8,200 kilometers of route to unite four states –Spain, Portugal, France and Germany– as a priority European network, with the aim of having it operational by 2030.
In the case of the high-speed connection between the Iberian Peninsula and France, the French Government has suggested in recent weeks that it does not consider this calendar and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchezsaid in the Congress of Deputies in his last appearance that he will require France to have high speed ready by 2030.
