Sylvester Stallone did not play in “Creed III”, and the dispute is escalating. “The 94-Year-Old Producer and His Useless Children”

A new movie from the Rocky universe, “Creed III”, has appeared in cinemas. It is also the first production in the series in which Sylvester Stallone did not appear. This is because of the dispute in which he is with the producer of the series and the person who took over all rights to the brand several decades ago.

In the mid-1970s, Sylvester Stallone wrote the script for “Rocky” and tried to convince many Hollywood producers to implement the project. Some of them liked the idea, but did not want to let an unknown actor play the lead role. Young Stallone received offers from studio bosses who wanted to buy the script for a considerable sum, but he did not give up and wanted to play the title character at all costs.

After months of searching, Stallone met with producer Irwin Winkler, who promised the young man that he could convince United Artists to cast him in the lead role. It was then during negotiations that Stallone relinquished the rights to “Rocky” to Irwin Winkler.

Sylvester Stallone bluntly about the producer of “Rocky”

The men must have been on good terms for many years, because in 2018 Stallone managed to play “Creed II”. However, it is also no secret that the actor has been trying to regain the rights (or part of the rights) to the character of the film hero for some time, but without success. Some time ago, he posted on Instagram a photo of Winkler’s drawing as a snake with a human head and provided a strong comment:

After Irwin controlled “Rocky” for 47 years, I’d like to have what little bit of my rights I have left back before passing them on to my children. Wouldn’t that be a fair gesture on the part of this 93-year-old gentleman? This line is eating me up inside, because I want to leave a bit of Rocky to my kids

But in recent times, Stallone’s statements about Winkler have become even more harsh:

The 94-year-old producer and his (…) useless children, Charles and David, are once again stripping the characters I’ve created to the bare bones without even telling me. Sorry to the fans, I never wanted the Rocky characters to be exploited by these parasites in this way

Although many fans of the series are unhappy with the absence of Sylvester Stallone in “Creed III”, it should not surprise anyone reading these statements. The absence of Rocky did not affect cinema attendance either. During its opening weekend, the film grossed $58.6 million in the United States, which is the best opening of the series (the previous one earned $35.6 million at the start). Michael B. Jordan, who also directs the film, stars in the lead role.
