After 18 days in the position of competent Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Eduardo Izaguirre was taken over on Wednesday morning, March 8, by the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, who also welcomed Juan Pablo Ortiz to the government as Legal Secretary.

With this, Izaguirre is officially the fourth Minister of Agriculture and Livestock in the government of Guillermo Lasso, in less than two years of administration, in which Tanlly Vera, Pedro Álava and Bernardo Manzano passed.

Eduardo Izaguirre is the new Minister of Agriculture

Izaguirre, who was the Deputy Minister of Productive Development, was appointed on February 19 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) following Manzano’s resignation following the controversy caused by the alleged interference of Rubén Cherres, a friend of Danilo Carrera, brother-in-law of President Lasso, in the management of the appointments of state officials.

The now former Secretary of State admitted in a radio interview that he submitted his resume to Cherres, although he clarified that in his opinion he did not enter the government because of the influence of this questionable character, but at the invitation of President Guillermo Sam lasso.

Meanwhile, Izaguirre comes from the private sector, but since 2021 he has already joined the public sector when he was undersecretary of Musáceas Strengthening, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. From 2014 to April 2022, he worked at Agrointegral IZTO, a complete consulting company in agricultural production.

The line minister met with officials to “continue projects and develop strategies” in the Ministry of Agriculture

Meanwhile, Izaguirre thanked President Lasso for the appointment.

“Thank you for your trust Mr. President Guillermo Lasso. Be assured that the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry is working tirelessly to make agriculture one of the axes of the country’s development. Our north will always be the benefit of the small producer”, said the new minister on his Twitter.

Izaguirre’s first activities as minister in charge last February were meetings with undersecretaries and other MAG officials to proceed with projects and develop new strategies.
