More than 57% of MSMEs in 2022 were created by women

In Peru, currently, there are 3.8 million micro, small and medium-sized companies (MSMEs), which represent 99.5% of the business fabric, 70% of employment in the country and a contribution of 40% to GDP. This figure, although in relation to 2021 means a slight advance of just 0.02%, it is more than 15% higher than the figure for 2019, before the pandemic, when only 41.9% of mypimes were created by women.

Another important factor is the amount of turnover that these companies represent. According to Alegra, during In 2019, the billing amounts in companies led by women were 16.2% below those in ventures led by men, however, the situation began to reverse from 2020, reaching 2022 to bill up to 15% more .

Profile of women entrepreneurs

The women between 20 and 34 years are those that undertake the most and represent the 53% of the entrepreneurial ecosystem feminine, says Alegra.

Likewise, it adds that the predominance of women was reflected in the 21 departments nationwide, only in Cajamarca, Apurímac, Huánuco and Áncash were men who had a greater preponderance in the leadership of enterprises. This trend is reproduced throughout the Latin American region, where one in three women entrepreneurs are the main economic contribution in their home.

According to data from the accounting software, a large percentage of the ventures led by women belong to the category of beauty salons with 74.5%, retail trade also stood out with 61.9%, food and beverage service activities with 59 .9% and wholesale trade with 57.8%. In contrast, the sectors with the lowest female participation were construction and transport and storage, with 17.8% and 23.2% respectively.
