BCRP: formal employment grew 9.4% in April and accumulated 13 months of recovery

Total formal employment nationwide grew 9.4% in April compared to the same month last year, accumulating 13 consecutive months of recovery as health measures to contain the pandemic have been eased, reported the Central Reserve Bank of the Peru (BCRP).

As for formal private jobs, these continue with the growth registered for more than a year, increasing 11.9% in last April.

The BCRP explained that the increase in jobs in the formal private sector occurred mainly in the services and agricultural sectors, with growth rates of 12.4% and 31.2%, respectively. He highlighted that half of the increase in formal jobs in April was registered in the services sector with 216,000 units.

Likewise, the total wage bill registered an interannual increase of 11.9% in the fourth month of the year, mainly associated with the recovery of jobs. Meanwhile, the wage bill of the private sector increased 13.8% in the same period, mainly due to the personal increase in the commerce, services and agricultural sectors.
