Faced with the evident increase in labor conflict, the Second Vice-Lehendakari and Minister of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendiaconsiders that negotiations are the best way to achieve good working conditions and trusts in the negotiating capacity of companies and unions.
In an interview on Radio Euskadi’s “Boulevard” program, he recognized that the war in Ukraine and rising inflation have added difficulty to the negotiations of the agreements. In any case, he wanted to send out a positive message and gave the agreements reached in Gipuzkoa Metal and in the construction sector as an example.
Asked about the specific case of MercedesIdoia Mendia is confident that the two parties (company and union representatives) can reach a satisfactory agreement that guarantees the investment of 1.2 billion euros in the Vitoria-Gasteiz plant.
In another order of things, the Spanish Government will approve on Saturday the anti-crisis decree at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers. Later, the Congress of Deputies will have to ratify it and, at the moment, the coalition government does not have guaranteed support. In any case, Idoia Mendia hopes that the PNV, EH Bildu and other parties that have previously supported the Executive will allow its approval.
One of the measures included in this decree is the reduction of VAT on electricity from 10 to 5% announced yesterday by the President of the Spanish Government Pedro Sánchez. From some sectors they point out that it was a response to the electoral result of the PSOE in Andalusia. Idoia Mendia has rejected that idea and has added that those who say such things know very little about Sánchez and the PSOE.
