Influencers who generate money on payment platforms, such as OnlyFans and Patreon, will have to pay Income tax, as announced by the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat). Sunat specified that the income generated by the influencers with residence in Peru qualify as third category income. Therefore, 29.5% of what they earn for their services must be allocated to the fiscal box, the entity said in a recent report on the meaning and scope of tax regulations.
In October 2021, Sunat specified that they will only pay fourth category taxes (8%) those influencers who are just starting their activities and do not carry them out constantly. The institution urged to comply with tax obligations, since they contribute to the country’s growth.
What is an influencer?

What income from influencers is taxable?
The collecting entity, in its report No. 000044-2022-SUNAT/7T0000, specified the income received by the influencers and that must be declared to pay taxes.
- Advertisers, whether in money or in kind, for showing and/or promoting the goods and/or services that are the subject of sponsorship in the channels, stories or audiovisual content that they (the influencers) produce and disseminate on their social networks.

- Monetize the channel or digital platform in which the aforementioned subjects interact with their followers, authorizing said platform to place advertising on their content, since it requires the influencers a minimum number of subscriptions and/or views of the aforementioned content, issuing them a check for profits only when the sum is greater than a certain amount.
