Electric car maker Tesla could create between 5,000 and 6,000 jobs at a new plant it plans to build in northern Mexico, Foreign Relations Undersecretary Martha Delgado said.
The official also reported that the US company is considering building an electric battery plant in the center of the country.
Mexican authorities said the day before that Tesla would invest more than US$5 billion for the new plant.in the state of Nuevo León, where it would produce around one million vehicles a year.
“It will be the largest Tesla electric vehicle plant in the world,” Delgado said. “It’s not the only investment we’re working on with Tesla, either,” he added. The official estimated the investment of the first phase of the factory between US$4,500 and US$5,000 million.
