The state of emergency for animal health declared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) on November 29, 2022 due to the outbreak of bird flu in some provinces of the country will be extended until the following May 27.
Vaccination against bird flu will begin on March 3 with 4 million doses having arrived in the country
This was announced by the State Department in a press release this Monday, February 27, in the afternoon. The extension of the measure was given by ministerial agreement 008 issued by the competent minister, Eduardo Izaguirre, after accepting the conclusions and recommendations of the technical and legal report presented by the Agency for Phytosanitary Regulation and Animal Health Control (Agrocalidad).

These conclusions show that there were 15 outbreaks, between November 2022 and February 2023, in the provinces of Cotopaxi, Bolívar, Tungurahua, Pichincha and Azuay affecting 1’193,491 birds, most of which are dedicated to egg production.
In the meantime, MAG reminded that starting next Friday, March 3, vaccination of about 2 million birds will begin with the first 4 million doses that arrived in the country in recent days.
