After being appointed as the competent Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Eduardo Izaguirre’s first activities were focused on meetings with the ministry’s staff, including officials, coordinators and undersecretaries.

Izaguirre indicated that the purpose of the meetings was to inform officials about the continuity of all projects and initiatives to support producers and to create immediate strategies in production projects in different areas.

Eduardo Izaguirre is the new Minister of Agriculture

The appointment of Izaguirre, who served as Undersecretary for Productive Development, was made on February 19 by Decree 676, issued by the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, in which he also accepted the resignation of former Minister Bernardo Manzano, who left office amid controversy over alleged interference Rubén Cherres in managing the appointments of state officials.

The competent minister comes from the private sector, but since 2021 he has already joined the public sector when he was the undersecretary of Musáceas Strengthening, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. From 2014 to April 2022, he worked at Agrointegral IZTO, a complete consulting company in agricultural production.

In addition, he was general manager at Grupo Chong Qui Moreano, from Quevedo, between June 2012 and August 28, 2014. He was also general manager of production, administration and production of plantations of export crops such as bananas and palm trees.

Between 2011 and 2012 he was a consultant in agricultural production and administration, and from 2001 to 2004 he was regional director of TV Cable – Telecommunications in Portoviejo.

Bernardo Manzano is leaving the Ministry of Agriculture because of the contradictions about how he came to office

The outgoing minister, who spent nine months in that position, received signs of support from associations and unions of agricultural producers, with statements of support. Among them are Tierra Verde Association of Agricultural Producers (Asoprat), Manabí Livestock Corporation (Corpogam), Agrovida Agricultural Association, National Federation of Ecuadorian Agricultural Chambers (Fenacae), among others.

“I highly appreciate the support of associations, unions and other actors in the agricultural sector. At this stage, openness to dialogue and cooperation from each of you was important. Thank you for your well wishes,” Manzano posted alongside statements of support.
