The salary expectation of Peruvians in the formal sector is one of the lowest in the region, but it has been recovering, according to the Jobint study.
Peruvians looking for work in the formal sector expect to earn an average of S/3,140 (US$823) by December 2022, one of the lowest salaries in the region, according to the Jobint report on the labor market in five countries. Argentina, Panama and Chile are above this average; we only surpass Ecuador (US$810) and Argentina (US$627, MEP dollar).
For their part, employers could offer between 5% and 10% more salary in the following months if the context normalizes, according to Freddy Kamt, commercial director Jobint Peru. “If the country’s political and economic situation returns to the direction it was in until last year, it could possibly raise salaries between 5% and 10%,” Kamt told La República.
Salary expectations were also evaluated according to experience. In the case of junior positions, Peru represents the lowest salary with S/1,778 (US$466). Above are Ecuador (US$519), Panama (US$742), Argentina (US$775, official dollar) and Chile (US$837).
In the case of bosses or supervisors, Argentina has the highest salary in the region with US$1,818 (official dollar), followed by Panama (US$1,440), Chile (US$1,430), Peru (US$1,403 or S/5,352), and lastly, Ecuador (USS1,313).
There are many factors that influence the variation in salaries, according to Kamt, such as the demand for certain jobs, the increase or decrease in the supply of certain items, the evolution of the market, among others. “This is demonstrated in the constant variations that Peru has presented since 2020, but that it is currently recovering by being able to restore the pre-pandemic salary,” he highlights.
