Dairy farmers criticized the company Gloria for the labeling of its blue jar and they affirm that they have already filed the complaint with Indecopi. This is what they mentioned.
The Association of Dairy Farmers of Peru (Agalep) criticized the current labeling on the blue jar of Gloria milk, one of the main dairy products consumed by Peruvians. In the foundations of the union, the current regulation of this drink states that the product “reconstituted milk” must not bear the word “milk”. For this reason, they reported that they had already formally filed a complaint with the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (indecopi).
How should Gloria milk be labeled, according to farmers?
In the words of Javier Valera, member of the Board of Directors of Agalepit cannot be allowed Gloria’s product“misnamed reconstituted milk” where “milk” appears in larger letters, mislead the consumer.
“According to the dairy terms that the codex, this product should not be called recombined or reconstituted milk, but rather be called ‘reconstituted milk product’‘, with letters of the same size, so that the consumer can identify it at first sight,” he said during an event organized by Conveagrus.
“Yeah [la industria] wants to use powdered milk, to do it, but to put the label that corresponds to it: ‘recombined dairy product’ when powdered milk is used with raw milk”, he pointed out.
What does Gloria say about your product?
In response, the Gloria company told La República that it has not been notified of any complaint about its blue jar and they assured that their current product contains vitamins that contribute to nutritional value.
“Our emblematic Gloria blue label milk is a product that has accompanied the growth of several generations of Peruvians. Adopting the denomination reconstituted milk enriched with vitamins A and D allows us to maintain the nutritional contribution, flavor, consistency and creaminess of always”, they indicated.
