A different scenario from 2020 is what hotels forecast for December. In the toughest year of the pandemic, mobility and capacity restrictions were frequent, which largely stopped the holding of social and corporate events.
Now that panorama is different. Some hotels already register reservations for Christmas and New Year’s parties, both family and business.
So too meetings for groups of friends who wish to hold their celebrations and gift exchanges.

Hotels appeal to the collaborative model to recover from the impact of the pandemic
“Without a doubt, 2021 has been a much more productive year. The segment of social and corporate events has been reactivated little by little. and we hope that December will be a month of excellent sales for hotels ”, he mentions Gabriel Ocampo, Marketing & Sales Manager of the Holiday Inn Hotel.
The company records countless dates reserved for next month, especially on weekends. These reserves contemplate the rooms for Christmas and New Year’s parties. The allowed capacity is 110 people in the main rooms.
Ocampo highlights that corporate and social events have increased compared to 2020, some of these are those left behind by the pandemic.
In the previous year there were losses of 60% over what was initially budgeted for 2020. And according to Ocampo, although with 2021 the pre-pandemic levels do not recover, he believes that they will be a good way to close the year and start 2022 well.
At hotel Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil they also have high expectations. They have received several requests for Christmas parties from companies and they estimate to carry out at least 50 celebrations in the events area, says Jorge Bucheli, general manager of the hotel.

They will have lunches, dinners, brunch and Christmas cocktail. In the NOVO Restaurant they will have Christmas menus and buffet. They handle the 50% capacity for social and corporate events up to 75%.
“Our offer is focused on tailor-made events, where we will be able to receive events of approximately 90 people in our rooms,” explains Bucheli.
The hotel was closed for several months and recently it has returned to serve its customers as a sign of economic reactivation.
“According to our sales forecast analysis, the market is looking to reactivate corporate and social Christmas celebrations, with flexible options to budgets that companies count and our hotel is ready to receive them ”, says Bucheli.
At hotel Oro Verde the demand has been increasing and there is already reservations for events, says Bayron Vallejo, Food and Beverage manager.
“We believe that this year will be better than the other in which we could recover a little from the conditions of the pandemic, since compared to 2020, this year there is a great demand in events for companies and also from small groups of friends and family ”, he indicates.
Past year the hotel posted losses of 40% compared to other periods. The repercussions were concentrated on December 24 and 31 due to the restrictions. “The events with the largest number of people could not be held,” says Vallejo.

The capacity is 75% both in restaurants and events. The main income of the hotel is large-scale events, emphasizes Vallejo.
Due to demand, the HM International Hotel incorporated the events segment in 2021. In fact they have various corporate packages such as family and groups of friends.
At the moment they are promoting dinners with 80% of the capacity to comply with biosecurity measures. They hope to increase their demand.
“Our demand has been the business sector, since we have been constantly working to improve profits, in turn being able to consolidate ties to maintain agreements with the different companies and organizations that trust us”, indicates Lorena Mejillones, administrative manager of the hotel.
Mejillones assures that December will be a different month due to the absence of the state of exception, restrictions and others. They expect the hotel sector to pick itself up again.
While, Nelly Pullas, proprietary hotel Urdesa Suite, still is analyzing launching a Christmas offer for this type of event. The also councilor of Guayaquil and who chairs the tourism commission has spoken with the union on the economic scenario for next month.
“They had a slow reactivation, now it has been reversed,” he points out and mentions that this sector that is responsible for the execution of the event in hotels, parties and others works at 80% of what it was in 2019.
Offer at home
The offer for December at home continues. There are citizens who choose to hold their events in their homes and corporate events in the same company.
From the Holiday Inn hotel this option is also available, as is Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil. With the latter the Orders can be made from December 1.
At the Oro Verde hotel they have a choice menu from four people even big celebrations like turkey or pork to share with the family. (I)
