The expansion and improvement of the Jorge Chavez International Airport it will mean an important injection of US$ 533 million to the national economy in 2023, reported the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC).
Minister Paola Lazarte specified that, for the construction of this new airport infrastructure, inputs that are purchased in the national territory are being used, in order to boost the domestic economy.
“Therefore, it is a project that, in addition to closing gaps and providing services to citizens, has a positive impact, this year, on the economic reactivation of the country,” highlighted the head of the MTC.
The investment amount amounts to more than US$ 2,000 million and includes the construction of the new control tower, the second runway and the new airport passenger terminal, under the responsibility of the concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP), with the supervision of Ositran and the accompaniment of the MTC and Corpac.
Jorge Chávez Airport: expansion ready in 2025
MTC reported that the work will conclude and start operations in 2025. Currently, the new passenger terminal registers a 26% progress, while the construction of the tower and the second runway are already at 100%. It is estimated that for the By 2025, the new Jorge Chávez Airport terminal will have the capacity to serve 30 million passengers per year, with a constructed area of 210,000 square meters.
The new control tower is 65 meters high and the second runway is 3,480 meters long. In addition, more than 10 kilometers of new taxiways have been built, approach lights and beacon systems were installed, among others. With this infrastructure it will be possible to serve all types of aircraft and a better service will be provided to users.
