The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, reported that his office is socializing his proposal with the various sectors in order to achieve a consensual initiative.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contrerasannounced this morning that his office has prepared a proposal for a bill on the reform of the pension system that would be submitted to the Legislature in March.
“We as the Ministry of Economy have a proposal that we are socializing with respect to the sectors. It definitely has to be a consensual proposal,” he said at the presentation of the Con Punche Peru Plan for the tourism sector.
In this sense, he stressed that there are currently various proposals from Congress and even from the AFPs. “The solution to the issue of pensions not only involves reforming the issue of pensions because, in reality, having a pension in Peru is a luxury. The percentage of people who access the pension system is low compared to the rest of the region,” he said.
Therefore, he stressed that this reform must include measures that help and encourage formality. Along these lines, he regretted that Congress has not approved the delegation of powers for the reform of the tax regime for mypes.
“We are going to go for the strategy of a bill so that this can be discussed. I hope that in March we can present the proposal. Inevitably, this proposal is going to have a significant fiscal cost, but we need to make a pension reform “, he stated.
