The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, met this Monday with producers, distributors and food vendors to find a solution to the increase in the cost of basic foods. As a general conclusion, it has asked all agents in the food chain “an effort” to ensure that what they foresee is a positive evolution of the costs of food production is also reflected in the final prices paid by consumers.

In statements to the media at the end of the meeting, Planas stressed that there are objective reasons to expect “that food prices will change and there will be a Change of trend“. He has also insisted that in the Spanish state “values are more positive than in Europe“.

Said evolution, he stressed, will be “progressive”It will not happen “overnight”. It will depend, among other factors, on the “stabilization” of the war in Ukraine or “that an extreme drought does not occur again.”

The minister recalled that the CPI “has peaked” and that the origin of the increase are “production costs”. Despite this, it foresees a positive evolution for the coming years and asks the agents of the food chain to see it reflected in the economy of families.
