Minem expects to complete 4 mining projects for US$ 3,000 million this 2023

Minister Óscar Vera Gargurevich said that his portfolio seeks to guarantee the populations that the Peruvian government will be the first to check that they are not affected, and that the agreements in the established contracts and agreements are fulfilled.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera Gargurevichinformed that this year the ministry estimates the execution of four important mining projects, for at least US$ 3,000 million.

During an interview with Rumbo Minero, the head of Minem said that his office is reviewing the strategies to make these projects viable.

“We want to carry out the Toromocho, Magistral, Shouxin and Quellaveco Expansion projects, with which we estimate an investment of the order of US$ 3,000 million. We have been talking with the companies to have a greater presence of the State,” Vera said.

Likewise, he said that the Minem seeks to guarantee the populations that the Peruvian Government will be the first to verify that they are not affected, and that the agreements in the established contracts and agreements are fulfilled.

Finally, Vera Gargurevich indicated that, despite the social crisis that plagues the southern regions, this year our country will recover its mining production, as well as investments in the industry.

“We are optimistic that this year the scheduled investments will materialize. Mineral prices have good values ​​and it is a good time for investments to take place”, he mentioned.

Buenaventura expects to start Yumpaq exploitation in 2023

On the other hand, it was learned that the Peruvian capital company Buenaventura expects to start the exploitation of its Yumpaq silver project, located in the Pasco region, this year 2023.

During Buenaventura’s presentation on the Challenges and Opportunities for 2023, the company’s general manager, Leandro García, indicated that Yumpaq could begin to be exploited towards the end of the year, once the permits have been obtained.

“This is a deposit that will guarantee us an annual production of between 8 and 10 million ounces of silver,” he signed. As recalled, this is one of the projects that the Executive also seeks to slow down as its economic reactivation plan.

In this regard, the representative stated that Yumpaq has 40 million ounces of silver resources and a potential mineral of 200 million ounces. Thus, Buenaventura forecasts an annual production for 2024 (full year) between 7 and 8 million ounces, which will be added to the ounces of silver that Uchucchacua will produce with the restart that will take place this year.
