PIT-40A is granted to retirees and pensioners who received benefits throughout the year in the tax year and did not receive an overpayment in the settlement. Not all seniors who received PIT-40A have to submit a tax return to the tax office. Pensioners who in the tax year:

  • they did not obtain other income taxed according to the tax scale,
  • they do not file jointly with their spouse or as single parents,
  • do not want to take advantage of tax reliefs,

they do not have to fill in the PIT. The office will accept them for them. If seniors want to donate 1% of their tax to public benefit organizations, they also do not have to submit a tax return. All you have to do is submit your PIT-OP to the tax office.

However, if a pensioner wants to take advantage of tax relief, he will have to submit PIT from February 15 to May 2. Pensioners who received PIT-40A and earned other income in the tax year, want to take advantage of reliefs, settle accounts with their spouse or are raising a child alone, they must submit PIT-37 or PIT-36 to the tax office (in the case of income from business activity).

PIT-11A. Does a retiree have to pay? Seniors have two choices

Seniors who received PIT-11A have two options. They can independently complete and submit a tax return at the tax office or via the Twoj e-PIT service from February 15 to May 2. They may also do nothing. Then the statement will be accepted automatically on May 2, 2023. In order to obtain a refund of overpaid tax, seniors must report their bank account to the tax office. This can be done in the tax return or on the ZAP-3 form.

As in the case of PIT-40A, if the senior had other income or wants to take advantage of tax relief, he must submit a PIT-37 tax return. In the case of self-employed persons, it is necessary to submit PIT-36.
