Indecopi: entity sanctioned 18 suppliers for not complying with energy labeling

The Commission for the Supervision of Unfair Competition (CCD) of Indecopi sanctioned 18 suppliers of electric artifacts for not placing energy efficiency labels, the same ones that inform about the energy consumption of household appliances.

The entity detailed that the penalties are the result of the 31 preliminary investigations that were carried out since the Energy Efficiency Labeling came into force (2018) when 23 sanctioning procedures were initiated, of which 18 were declared founded; In other words, it was proven that they committed an offense.

The Commission for the Supervision of Unfair Competition, in these cases, imposed a reprimand, but demanded that the companies immediately cease the commercialization of artifacts or the dissemination of advertising that have infringed the regulations, in safeguarding the right to information of the consumers.

According to the regulations of the aforementioned standard, labels must be placed on refrigerators, water heaters, dryers, washing machines, electric motors, air conditioning equipment, boilers, household lamps and ballasts for fluorescent lamps. The advertising of these products must also contain the corresponding label.

Upon detecting a violation, the CCD it is empowered to initiate a sanctioning administrative procedure and may impose sanctions ranging from a warning to a maximum fine of S / 3,080,000 (700 UIT).

He also reminded consumers to check the energy efficiency label on electrical appliances before purchasing, as it provides information on energy consumption. The letter A means that the product is more efficient and the letter G, that it is less efficient, as shown in the example.
