Committee to fight against smuggling and fraud presented first results

He Committee for the Fight against Smuggling and Tax and Customs Fraud, made up of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Internal Revenue Service (SRI), the National Customs Service (Senae) and the Ecuadorian Business Committee (CEE), met in Guayaquil to present progress and results in the fight against smuggling.

The Committee is an instance of public-private collaboration, through which the The Business Committee presents complaints of cases with indications of tax and customs fraud. This initiative, indicated the SRI in a statement, is part of the 2023 Tax Justice Plan, which seeks to improve collection and the fair development of business activities through greater tax control.

So far this year, the SRI and the Senae have dealt with more than 20 complaints regarding the importation of merchandise and informal trade.

Among the actions carried out, the Internal Revenue Service reviewed the flow of imports of the denounced products, origin of merchandise and unit price declared by the denounced companies, as well as by their peers in the sector (companies that import the same tariff headings).

For his part, andl Senae made an analysis of the value of the merchandise denounced related to price, origin and other characteristics.

Once the tax-customs risks have been determined, the respective control actions have already begun to be carried out within the scope of competence of each institution.

During the meeting, the Business Committee presented new complaints related to other import products.

The Committee for the Fight against Smuggling, Undervaluation and Tax Fraud – Customs will continue to carry out forceful actions against informality, smuggling and unfair competition, the authorities said. (YO)
