Petroperú would carry out the massification of gas

The total massification of natural gas in Camisea begins to take shape. During his time at the Congressional Energy Commission, the Vice Minister of Mines, Jorge Chávez, confirmed the interest of the President’s Government Pedro Castillo to bet on Petroperú for temporary concessions concerning the distribution of natural gas in the central and southern regions of Peru.

As part of this agenda, Chávez Cresta assured that they will seek from the Minem to strengthen the capacities of the State to carry out the massification that the private sector could not carry out for more than a decade.

“The construction of natural gas networks in non-concession areas is achieved with the supreme decree that authorizes Petroperú to develop networks. I believe that we cannot have an idle capacity of an institution that can lead to this overcrowding at a lower cost, ”said the official.

The latter has the great advantage of being close to the networks of the Transportadora de Gas del Perú (TGP), which transfers the resource from Camisea. A second phase would include the Cusco region, and the third would include the cities of Huancavelica, Junín, Apurímac and Puno.

Precisely, the use of the resources of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) and / or the Energy Security System in Hydrocarbons (SISE), in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 29852, which allows the use of these resources to develop natural gas infrastructure nationwide.

Petroperú and the GN agenda

Petroperú manages the gas distribution service in the cities of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna, commissioned by Minem, after the concessionaire in charge of that operation, Naturgy, returned the concession to the State.

By law, the State can only assume activities under a subsidiary role when the private sector cannot do them.
