Integration. Along with the refinery in that city, the state company is getting ready to return to ongoing businesses that ensure liquidity.

Once again, the Government, through the highest investiture, ratified the entry of Petroperú to the oil lots located in the Talara basin.

Within the framework of the presentation of the balance of its first two months in front of the ExecutivePresident Dina Boluarte assured that, along with the historic start-up of the New Talara refinery (NRT), “oil wells have returned to the national bosom.”

This government decision was announced a week ago in Talara, by Boluarte, during the inauguration of the Diesel Hydrotreatment Unit (which today produces 30,000 barrels per day of less than 50 parts per million of sulfur).

The head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), Óscar Vera Gargurevich, and the president of the Petroperú board of directors, Carlos Vives, have also confirmed this position, to the extent that the lots in question are for exploitation and do not represent the risk that it would have a lot in the exploration phase.

It is important to highlight that the return to vertical integration on a larger scale of Petroperú will occur with the expiration of the contracts for a package of lots located in the Talara basin. All the Talara batches sell their production to the refinery, an operation for which Petroperú pays the international price.

Another relevant fact is that three of these contracts expire this year: Block V, operated by GMP (expires October 5), Block VII-VI operated by Sapet (expires October 21) and Block Z-2B, operated by Savia (expires November 15).

Role of the NRT

President Boluarte stressed yesterday that the start-up of the New Talara Refinery (NRT) will guarantee the smooth distribution of fuels nationwide. “(…) this will serve to guarantee the smooth distribution of fuel in a healthy competition, surely, with the other companies,” she said. Likewise, she affirmed that the refinery will reduce the dependence of the internal market on the importation of this product. “We have the guarantee of not being dependent on imported fuel,” she said.
