He Petroecuador manager, Hugo Aguiar, will be removed from his post Saturday February 11, 2023, in the urgent extraordinary session that was convened a few minutes ago by the president of the Public Companies Coordinating Company (EMCO), Joaquín Ponce. In an office addressed to Jairon Merchán Haz, National Secretary for Planning, and the Minister of Energy, Fernando Santos. Ponce summoned them to discuss two specific issues:

- Replacement of the General Manager of the Public Hydrocarbons Company of Ecuador EP Petroecuador, in accordance with the provisions of numeral 13 of article 9 of the Organic Law of Public Companies.
- Appointment of the Deputy General Manager of the Public Hydrocarbons Company of Ecuador EP Petroecuador, in accordance with the provisions of article 12 of the Organic Law of Public Companies and article 4 numeral 34 of the Regulations for the Operation of the Board of Directors of the Public Hydrocarbons Company from Ecuador EP Petroecuador.
Ponce also suggested that lawyer Jorge Canelos, current deputy secretary of the Ecuadorian Public Hydrocarbons Company EP, act as ad-hoc secretary for this meeting.
The substitution of Aguiar is given after five months after being appointed to that position, and barely a week after it was ratified, in the midst of a process to purify the managers of the 13 public companies. Additionally, it occurs after the raids that took place on Thursday night at the homes of the Petroecuador manager, Hugo Aguiar; Ítalo Cedeño, former general manager of Petroecuador; César Pazmiño, advisor at Petroecuador; and Marcos Miranda, former Undersecretary of Government.
The departure occurs in the middle of the publication by the La Posta portal, of several audios in which it is implied that there was a corrupt management of contracts.
Aguiar was part of the government of Rafael Correa; while in the government of Guillermo Lasso he was part of the indigenous dialogue tables on the issue of subsidies. (YO)
