They ask to stop the import of 120 thousand tons of corn

The legislator Eduardo Zambrano (BAN), initiated an investigation on this action carried out by the Undersecretariat of Marketing of the Ministry of Agriculture

The assemblyman of the province of Los Ríos, Eduardo Mendoza Hurtado (BAN), requested the support of the Food Sovereignty Commission of the National Assembly to demand that the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Pedro Álava González, stop an illegal import permit of 120,000 tons of corn.

The resolution was presented by Mendoza before the legislative board in which he is a member, and received the unanimous support of the legislators, where he also asked the agriculture official to sanction those responsible for the inaction, which in his opinion affects the agricultural sector from the country.

Before the commission, the legislator of the National Agreement Bank, affirmed that on November 4 the authorization granted by the Undersecretary of Marketing of the Ministry, César Herrera, for the importation of corn that benefits few companies was made public.

He reported that this authorization violated norms and regulations that are mandatory when the State grants this type of permit, since the balance of crops and grain availability was not carried out. The Advisory Council was not convened to analyze the corn market, requirements that are essential prior to the legal import authorization of the grass.

The representative of Los Ríos announced that he will summon Minister Álava to the Food Sovereignty Commission, to explain to the legislators the reasons that led to authorizing the importation of grass and what actions he took to sanction the fact.

He said that the first results of his complaint led Minister Pedro Álava to remove the undersecretary, César Herrera Santos, from his position on November 11. (I)
