Piura: more than 11,000 homes already have natural gas service

The figure reached in the five provinces of the Piura region exceeds the connection goal for the second year of operations by almost 50%, which still expires in September 2024.

More than 11,000 homes in the Piura region are already connected to the natural gas distribution system, according to the Promigas company Quavii. With this figure, The Piura Concession exceeds the goal of residential connections for its second year of operations by nearly 50%, which expires in September 2024.

Of the total connections, 8,000 are located in the city of piura; more than 1,000 in Sullana; 1,000 homes in paita; 1,000 in talara; and about 200 in secura, which was the last city to start operations. This result materialized after, in September 2022, Quavii began its commercial operation, one year before the deadline established by the Peruvian State.

“To date, we have met the goal of connections in the five provinces of the Piura concession corresponding to the second year of operations despite the fact that we are still in the first year; and we already benefited with natural gas to more than 40,000 Piurans. Our intention is to continue increasing this figure in order to bring the benefits of this resource to more citizens”, said Miguel Maal, general manager of Promigas Peru.

Progress has been possible thanks to the construction of five natural gas distribution stations in the region, one for each city, and for the 300-kilometer steel gas pipeline and the construction of 300 kilometers of polyethylene networks, which represent 22,000 ringed homes, that is, within the service coverage area. All these works have demanded an investment of US$155 million so far.

Along with these tasks, Quavii has enabled the supply of natural gas to 16 industries, among which the New Talara Refinery and the Miski Mayo company stand out.

The entire construction process was developed in full compliance with safety and quality regulations, and under the supervision of Osinergmin. In addition, the natural gas distribution system is permanently monitored to detect any affectation and families can call 1808 free of charge to report any emergency.

FISE: progress of special projects

The company also reported that it has made significant progress in the construction of the distribution stations for La Tortuga, La Brea-Negritos and El Alto, locations that were not initially considered in the first connection plan. and in which, with resources from the Social Energy Inclusion Fund (FISE), more than 6,500 families will be able to count on the public natural gas service after the construction of the distribution networks scheduled for this year is completed.
