Average salaries in the Basque Country were contained in 2022 with average increases of between 3% and 4%, compared to the 5.7% increase in prices, according to data from the latest Euskadi Salary Guide prepared by the consultancy LKS Next , in collaboration with i3s. The report collects data on the gross fixed remuneration in the last year of 86 professional profiles.
For the second consecutive year, the profiles linked to new technologies and engineering are the ones that experience the highest salary growth, although the study warns that the crisis of the technological ones in 2023 could change this trend.
The director of the People Consulting area of LKS Next, Ander Sansinenea, has highlighted that “we are witnessing a containment of wages in the Basque Country, with average increases of between 3% and 4%, below the cost of living , which last year was the highest in the last three decades, with an increase of 5.7%”.
Sansinenea has highlighted the current uncertainty that exists in the remuneration of ICT positions, and has ensured that “we cannot ignore the fact that they have experienced significant remuneration increases as a result of strong demand in the field of digitization, but this aspect could change in the face of massive layoffs of the big technology companies that started in the United States and are already spreading in Europe”. In the same way, positions linked to engineering are also “other of the most required roles, characterized in turn by their high qualification and constant salary growth.”
Regarding the level of hiring, he explained that “the trend of equalization between the factors of the salary package, possibilities of professional growth, job security and reconciliation between personal and professional life when choosing a job continues.” In his opinion, “organizations are no longer focused exclusively on technical training and professional experience, but each time people’s motivation and personal skills are increasingly valued.”
