January started with monthly inflation of 0.12% and a basic family basket of $764.71, reports the INEC

Inflation for the first month of the year, that is, January 2023, it was 0.12% compared to December 2022. This is a lower indicator than the one registered in the same period, that is, in January 2022, which was 0.72%. Additionally, annual inflation, which measures the speed of prices between January of last year until January 2023 it reaches 3.12%. This was reported a few minutes ago by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC).

According to the Institute, the product groups that paid for this rise, which is slight, were furniture and household items with 0.086%; restaurants with 0.024% and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 0.012%. Regarding annual inflation, on the other hand, the groups of products that have had the greatest influence were food and non-alcoholic beverages with 1.23% and transport with 0.37%.

Meanwhile, the family baskets: basic and vital, were located at $764.71 and $539.78 respectively. The baskets, indicates the INEC, are a set of essential goods and services to satisfy the basic needs of a typical household, that is, the one that is made up of four members with 1.6 income recipients who earn the unified basic remuneration.

Taking this parameter into account, it is calculated that income per typical household would be $840, since the basic salary was increased to $450, which represents that the basic basket is covered and that income is higher than that indicator.

The most expensive city with respect to the basic basket were in their order:

  • Basin with $796.52.
  • Quito with $793.49.
  • Blanket with $779.23.
  • Guayaquil with $778.79. (YO)
