The Vice Minister of Development of Family Agriculture and Agrarian Infrastructure and Irrigation of Midagri, Jose Muro Ventura, confirmed that his portfolio and that of Economy and Finance are working on an emergency decree to partially subsidize the fertilizers of family farming producers with farms of 2 to 10 hectares.
During his presentation before the Agrarian Commission of Congress, the vice minister said that direct economic support will also be provided to producers of family agriculture with plots of less than two hectares, similar to the Bono Yanapay. In this case, the coordination is carried out together with the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis).
The measure will benefit those agricultural producers who register for this purpose at the national level, for which Midagri promotes the implementation of a Producers Register. Currently, the ministry has a first list that registers 3,188 family farming producers in 24 regions of the country.
In the event that the agricultural producer is not registered, he / she must register in the local registration of the agricultural and / or local agencies implemented by Midagri that is closest to its jurisdiction.
“These are measures that would be available at the end of November 2021 and that we are in full coordination with the MEF for their implementation. We await its approval in the next session of the Council of Ministers ”, remarked Muro Ventura.
Midagri: fertilizers brought from Bolivia
On the other hand, the vice minister referred to the recent agreement signed between the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energies of Bolivia and the head of the sector, Víctor Maita, for the promotion and commercialization of urea for agricultural use. This agreement, he explained, will allow for additional mechanisms to supply urea.
For this reason, at the moment the Agriculture sector is preparing the roadmap to make the implementation of the aforementioned agreement viable, which will help facilitate access to fertilizers and thus guarantee the current August 2021-July 2022 agricultural season.
Likewise, the vice minister mentioned the supply and commercialization of guano from the island as an alternative to provide fertilizers at affordable prices and thus serve small producers. He said that next year it is expected to have up to 40,000 metric tons of this agricultural input.
