In January. BCRP study reveals that the factor that had the least impact on merchants was the demand seasonality.
Saturday, February 4, marked one month since the resumption of protests against the government at the national level after a brief truce for the end of the year holidays. So, the sociopolitical crisis Sustained growth became the main factor affecting the sales of Peruvian businessmen in January, according to the latest report from the Monthly Survey of Macroeconomic Expectations conducted by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).
The document reveals that 30% of businessmen interviewed stated that social conflicts had a significant impact on their sales in January. While only 5% believe that these events did not affect their business.
For their part, among the factors that businessmen consider affected them least in the first month of the year, seasonality of demand leads with 20%. They are followed by changes in the purchasing power of their potential customers (18%), logistical problems (16%) and with 15% financial problems (see infographic).
Christmas campaign
On the other hand, the study prepared by the BCRP indicates that 44% of businessmen in the commerce sector consider that sales for the Christmas campaign were below or much below the levels registered in 2021. Meanwhile, 25% believe that they registered similar sales and 32% consider that they were higher than the previous year.
Regarding the volume of sales expected by merchants, 38% believe that it was below their expectations, a figure that contrasts considerably with what was registered in 2021, when it barely reached 13%.
Likewise, 34% indicate that their sales were similar to 2021. In addition, 19% are very optimistic and indicate that they were higher or much higher than what was achieved in the previous campaign. The previous year, this percentage reached 33%.
The data
Deterioration. In January, the BCRP carried out the survey of regional perception. The indicators fell back. So, it is observed that the expectations of the economy at 3 and 12 months have fallen in the north, south and center of the country.
