In accordance with Formed Corporation, a non-profit entity that works with various Chambers of Production and in alliance with universities, promoting technological careers in dual modality, the companies describe how profile of an ideal employee:
- A person who has technological knowledge.
- That they have previous knowledge in the area or that they are ready to take care of their tasks.
- That he is qualified to occupy positions in middle management.
In this sense, Corporación Formados announced the creation of 10 technological careers in dual modality, which will be implemented in 2023 and 2024. This announcement is made as part of a new project called Skills for the Future, which is being carried out with the support of Fundación Crisfe. These new careers have a component of specific skills in digital, sustainable, entrepreneurship, creative, innovation, and English programs.
This is how he explains it Juan Fernando Gutiérrez, president of Corporación Formados, who also comments that the project was born in 2018 in search of increasing the employability of young people through practical training in the workplace and thus closing the gap between labor demand and supply. Until the end of 2019, the program had more than 600 students in training and close to 150 graduates in twelve majors.
However, during the pandemic, he had some problems continuing his work. Already in 2022 he reopened nine of the twelve races, which benefited 115 new students. Now, in 2023, five new races will open and the other five are expected to be completed by 2024. This would allow the participation of at least 300 more students.
Gutierrez claims that The employability of the future will depend “more on professionalism and the skills that people acquire than on the titles they obtain.”
In this sense, Corporación Formados indicates that it offers students a real work experience while they study for their university degree. This establishes a link with your labor market, which leads to a greater chance of successful professional growth. And that for companies the dual training system facilitates the selection of personnel and generates loyalty on the part of the student.
Gutiérrez, however, points out that among young people there is still no predilection for technological careers and rather they are inclined towards longer careers, which are those that train top executives. In a survey carried out with students, they were asked, for example, what modality of studies they would like to continue after high school. 59.7%, corresponding to 483 students, prefer Bachelor’s or Engineering careers; 33.9% (274 students) are interested in technological careers; and 6.4% (52 students) would be interested in a technical level career.
In any case, when asking them if they are interested in pursuing careers that allow them to practice from the first level, 65.8%, corresponding to 610 students, are interested; 34.2% (317 students) are not interested in this type of career. This last group exposes as main reasons that they are interested in careers in the field of medicine, law, social careers, veterinary medicine, administrative sciences. Also that they are interested in being part of training schools for police, military, marines.
In accordance with Gutiérrez, the country urgently needs to change its educational and professional training model. That during the last forty years or more the country’s public education has been politicized and if the productive sector wants to have better results it must invest in the education and training of society in general.
