The European Union (EU) presented this Wednesday, November 10, a pioneering project in Peru that seeks promote the circular economy in the districts of La Victoria and The Augustinian, where hundreds of textile companies operate and the largest clothing emporium, Gamarra. In addition, It has the term to extend until mid-2023 and according to the progress of its operation, it will progressively take place in other districts.

“We still have 24 months ahead of us and the idea is to add more and more industrialists, MSMEs, consumers and local governments to generate changes in this new way of producing and consuming,” declared Ricardo Fernández, project coordinator and specialist for the EFE agency. by ASPEm.

In 2018, these business districts of clothing generated 240,000 tons of solid waste, which is why the objective is to promote in the medium and long term local actions that lead these districts to carry a development model based on the circular economy, which promotes the Resource Optimization, the reduction in the consumption of raw materials and the use of waste.

Finally, the specialist pointed out that this responsibility also falls on the local governments, since the creation of actions that promote the formalization and strengthening of recyclers, the reduction of the use of unnecessary materials for production or services and the incorporation of waste segregation processes.
