Together for Peru proposes that the snack be part of the working day

The bench of Together for Peru introduced a bill in Congress that proposes including snack time as part of a worker’s workday. In addition, this should not be less than 45 minutes, if the person works eight hours.

All time dedicated to refreshments is part of the working day and work schedule, and may not be less than forty-five (45) minutess. Unless there is an individual or collective agreement that improves these conditions for the worker, ”states the legal proposal that would modify article seven of the law on working hours, hours and overtime work.

The project argues that the current norm does not consider refreshments as part of the working day, since at that time the worker does not produce or provide service, which does not generate any benefit to the employer.

This panorama is reflected in the work dynamics. Well, if a person starts their shift at 8:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm, they leave 45 minutes later because the snack time is added. Nevertheless, The project emphasizes that, from the social foundation, this free time allows the worker to consolidate as a citizen, improve their health, rest and, therefore, improve their productivity.

“Therefore (the snack) should be understood not only as a worker’s right, but also as part of the business interest; since, fatigue and tiredness negatively affect people’s work ”, says the proposal.
