Inflation of Brazil it accelerated at a rate of 1.25% between September and October, which is the highest level for the tenth month of the year since 2002, according to data released this Wednesday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Ibge).
According to a report by Europa Press, so far this year the price increase in the country of Jair Bolsonaro It was 8.24%, while the interannual variation continues to be above two digits, with an increase of 10.67%. The month-on-month data of 1.25% contrasts with that registered in October 2020, when prices increased by 0.86%.
The boost in prices in the South American country is due to the fact that all the groups of products and services analyzed by Ibge registered inflationary pressures during October. Among others, the transport sector stands out with inflation of 2.62%, mainly explained by the higher price of fuel, especially gasoline, which has risen 38.3% so far this year.
The director of the Ibge Consumer Price Index, Pedro Kislanov, sees the Petrobras rate adjustments as the explanation for the rise in gasoline prices. In addition to this, the prices of diesel (5.77%), ethanol (3.54%) and gas (0.84%) also increased.
“Transportation had the greatest variation and the greatest impact by far in the index for the month. The rise in gasoline is related to successive readjustments that Petrobras has applied to the price of fuels in refineries ”, he explains.
However, not only the transportation segment presented price increases. Food and beverages became more expensive by 1.17%, while the housing group registered a boost of 1.04% due to the increase in the electricity rate
