The hydrocarbon spill in the Norperuano Pipeline, in the Condorcanqui province, damaged the soil, vegetation and water in the area.
The Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA), an entity attached to the Ministry of the Environment, is supervising the oil spill that occurred on January 18, 2023 at kilometer 390+184 Section II of the Norperuano Pipeline, near the Pantam y Paraiso native community, in the district of Nieva, Condorcanqui province and department of Amazon.
Thus, for the first report, the point of the emergency was reached with the accompaniment of the community authorities, the representatives of the Condorcanqui Fighting Committee, Indeci, the Condorcanqui Municipality and DIRESA. On site it was verified that the oil spill affected environmental components: soil, vegetation and water, reaching the impact of the Cayamas stream, the Chiangos river and the Nieva river.

Along these lines, Petroperú SA informed OEFA that it will install containment barriers located at the port of the Nueva Unida community, on the Chiangos river, in order to contain the hydrocarbon migration.
It should be noted that the authorization of the supervisory body was given on January 26, 2023, after a meeting held in the Najaim Native Community (Paraiso), in which the representatives of the affected communities participated in the Shawit sector, the Condorcanqui Province Struggle Committee , Indigenous Roundabouts in the Shawit sector, the Awajúm Autonomous Territorial Government together with representatives of entities such as the Regional Government of Amazonas, the Provincial Municipality of Condorcanqui, the Ministry of Culture, the Condorcanqui Health Network, the INDECI-Amazonas Decentralized Directorate, among others. Likewise, at said meeting it was agreed to provide the corresponding facilities and guarantees to Petroperú SA to implement first response actions.
In the coming days, OEFA will continue with environmental supervision, taking samples of the affected environmental components.
