The United States economy slowed down and grew 2.1% in 2022

The result of last year in the North American country represents a decline of 3.8% compared to the advance of 5.9% registered in 2021.

The economy of USA grew 2.1% in 2022 driven by the 0.07% increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the fourth quarter of the year, as reported this Thursday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA, for its acronym in English). Despite the positive performance, this figure represents a setback of 3.8% compared to the 5.9% advance registered in 2021.

On an annualized basis, the increase in the economy in the fourth quarter was 2.9%, a percentage higher than what was expected from the consensus of analysts collected by Bloomberg. The experts contemplated a rise of 2.6%. Although the data shows that the world’s leading economy continues to expand, it is a lower figure than that achieved in the previous quarter, when, in annualized terms, it grew by 3.2%.

According to the BEA, the rise of seven tenths occurs within the framework of moderate inflation, low unemployment, continuous uncertainties in the supply chain and rising interest rates.

However, he points out that quarter-on-quarter growth in the last 3 months of 2022 slowed slightly from 0.8% in the third quarter as a result of the drop in exports and the pace of non-residential fixed investmentstate and local government spending, and consumer spending.
