Today, Wednesday, November 10, Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) put into circulation the third S / 1 coin of the numismatic series “Builders of the Republic – Bicentennial 1821-2021”, which bears the image of Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza.
This collection, consisting of 9 coins, has the purpose of remembering and commemorating the characters who, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, fought to achieve the freedom of Peru. This occurs within the framework of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Peru.
Therefore, this new coin seeks to pay tribute to Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza, who played an important role in this event, since he signed the Act of the Declaration of Independence in 1821 and joined the first Constituent Congress in 1822 to debate the first Constitution of Peru.
In addition, he stood out in the history of Peru for his work as a teacher, because during his years as a teacher at the Real Convictorio de San Carlos in Lima, he promoted the ideals of the Enlightenment, fostered the critical aspect and political debate, stimulating the emancipatory spirit in his students.
