The mypes and families of Cusco, Puno and Madre de Dios are the most affected by the stoppage of activities, explained the minister Alex Contreras.
The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contrerasreported this Tuesday that after almost two months of nationwide protests — in rejection of the Dina Boluarte regime and request for a Constituent Assembly — considerable blows are already being observed in economic activity.
“The scenario of social conflict is having significant economic impacts (…), but the balance is positive. Despite this, we maintain strength and resilience,” he told the press.
Contreras explained that since the outbreak of the social demonstrations, at the beginning of December, until January 23, S/2,150 million have been lost.
The drop in revenues due to road blockades and business closures have mainly affected the southern regions, such as Cusco, Puno and Madre de Dios.
