President Guillermo Lasso and the CEO of the company met over the weekend.
The Spanish company Telefónica indicated that it ended the third quarter of this 2021 with an increase of 11.6% in Latin America compared to the same period in 2020.
The firm has 109 million accesses in this region, its main business being mobile accesses, although it also provides broadband and pay TV services. It also expects to expand its operations with the deployment of InfraCos, an infrastructure division for fiber deployments, in Chile and Colombia.
The CEO of the company worldwide, José María Álvarez-Pallete, met last weekend with the Ecuadorian president Guillermo Lasso.
Álvarez-Pallete said that he is optimistic about the start of negotiations to renew the concession with the Ecuadorian State, starting in 2023. As well as his willingness to work on the digitization of the country, which can bring benefits to more citizens.
According to the company, the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Telecommunications and the Information Society, Vianna Maino; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauricio Montalvo; the Itinerant Ambassador, Juan Carlos Holguín; as well as Laura Abasolo, Financial Director of Telefónica and Head of the Hispanoamérica operation; and Alfonso Gómez, CEO of Telefónica Hispam.
After the meeting, Maino commented on Twitter that the transnational wants to strengthen its presence in the country, especially in rural areas.
Telefónica has been in Ecuador for 17 years and claims to have invested more than 2,600 million dollars in that time.
Meanwhile, Lasso expressed his desire to continue fostering a climate of trust so that large companies see Ecuador as a point to invest, especially in technology and telecommunications.
