The Ministry of Transport and Communications reported that the drilling of the underground viaduct (tunnel) has already begun and works are being carried out in the port area and in the entrance complex.
This tunnel, which connects the entrance complex with the port operative zone, will have a length of 1.8 kilometers and constitutes a segregated and exclusive road corridor for cargo traffic, and will have three vehicular lanes, two conveyor belts for solid bulks. and liquid bulk multiproduct pipes.
The construction of the tunnel and the segregated access roads will avoid typical problems of relationship between the port and the city, eliminating the impact on the community due to port traffic.
The MTC estimates that in the construction stage it will generate 1,500 direct jobs and about 7,500 indirect ones; Likewise, the investment of the project in its first stage amounts to approximately 1,213 million dollars (does not include VAT), while in its final conception it will exceed 3,600 million.
With this, Chancay will become a regional hub in order to redistribute cargo to other nearby countries such as Chile, Ecuador and Colombia. In addition, it will handle other types of cargo for the area of influence, thus decongesting the access roads to Callao, generating opportunities for cargo from the east and central highlands, and increasing its competitiveness compared to other markets.
