Peruvians traveling to Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia will be able to make calls without additional costs

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that since January 1, 2022, Peruvian citizens with a postpaid line traveling to Bolivia, Ecuador or Colombia will have the same rates in voice, data and SMS as in Peru. Thus, users who are in the member countries of the Andean Community (CAN) will have access to a postpaid mobile line without surcharges for international roaming.

In this sense, the director general of Policies and Regulation of Communications of the MTC, Marco Antonio Maldonado, stressed that the measure will help prevent users from having additional expenses in the telecommunication service.

“In other words, users will not have to make any additional payment for the international roaming service when they are in the countries of the Andean Community”, He assured.

Coordinated measure

Maldonado said that the reduction of roaming rates in the countries of the CAN It is the result of a coordinated work for months. Thus, the proposal was approved at the 173 Extraordinary Meeting of the Andean Committee of Telecommunications Authorities (CAATEL), in which the MTC participated. The purpose of the agreement is the progressive elimination of international roaming.

“The MTC, in conjunction with the Peruvian regulatory body, has been working in an articulated and continuous way with the authorities and regulatory bodies of the CAN member countries for the implementation of this Andean standard, towards a progressive elimination of international roaming ”, assured the official.

It should be remembered that on October 29, the Secretary General of the Andean Community, Jorge Hernando Pedraza, signed Resolution 2232 in Lima. The report approves the new wholesale rate scheme for the international roaming service in the countries that make up the Andean Community.
