The National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) reported that, according to the port condition report issued by the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) of the Peruvian Navy, the Petroperú liquid cargo dock, located in Piura, is the only one that remains closed before the occurrence of waves of light to moderate intensity
According to DHN Special Notice No. 5, the swells would continue until Thursday, January 26. Given this, Indeci urged regional and local authorities to guide the population regarding specific protection measures.
These emergency devices include preventing citizens or vessels from being exposed to this phenomenon, in order to prevent accidents or personal and material damage.
In the same way, it is recommended to suspend port and fishing activities, as well as to insure vessels or withdraw small fleets to the mainland.
It is also requested to avoid sports and recreational activities during the period of waves, as well as camps near beach areas, for the duration of the emergency that until a few days ago meant the closure of 87 ports nationwide.
Indeci, through the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), monitors the departments of the Peruvian coast in coordination with the Disaster Risk Management offices and the DHN, in order to provide information to the authorities and the general population on the events that occur.
