Mincetur: more than 400 stranded tourists were transferred from Machupicchu town to Cuzco

The minister of Foreign Trade and TourismLuis Fernando Helguero, confirmed that the transfer to Cusco of 418 tourists who were stranded in Machupicchu town was carried out, after the damage caused in some sections of the railway due to the demonstrations.

“I appreciate the coordinated work of the public and private sectors to achieve the identification, location and confirmation of the health status of isolated people. The Tourist Protection Network adds efforts for this safe transfer. In total, 148 foreign tourists and 270 nationals have been mobilizedHelguero declared.

Likewise, during the early hours of Saturday, January 21, the transfer of people began in two trains that departed from Machupicchu town to the Piscacucho station. At that point, buses provided by the Department of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Cusco (Gercetur), travel agencies and tour operators in the region took citizens to the city of Cusco.

“Peruvianness is also expressed in solidarity work, he gave a special mention to all the members of the tourism value chain in Cusco. All Peruvians of good will must demonstrate that we protect our cultural heritage as a central part of our heritage and national identity and, in the same way, we guarantee the safety and quality of the travel experience of all visitors to our country, with special emphasis in Machupicchu”, added the head of the Mincetur.

In this line, the transfer operation was achieved in coordination with the members of the Tourist Protection Network of the Mincetur, the Gercetur, the National Police, PromPerú, and tourist unions of the Cusco region. In addition to the support of the concessionaire Fetransa, and the railway companies Perurail and IncaRail, who provided all the facilities for the transfer.

It should be noted that operations at the Velasco Astete International Airport also resumed on Saturday.
