De facto measure of oil workers comes to an end, after agreeing to dismiss the Human Talent manager and a dialogue table

The sit-in and vigil carried out by dozens of oil workers, since January 18 outside the Petroecuador headquarters, on Alpallana and Seis de Diciembre streets in Quito, comes to an end, after reaching an agreement with the Chairman of the Board of the Coordinating Company of Public Companies (EMCO), Joaquín Ponce, in order to open dialogue tables on the protesters’ requests.

This morning, Joaquín Ponce reached the vicinity of Petroecuador and held a meeting with Jinsop Martínez, leader of the protest and president of the Company Committee of Petroecuador. Upon leaving the meeting, both Martínez and Ponce confirmed the start of the talks and asked the workers to return to their jobs.

Ponce ratified that today the Human Talent manager, Julio César Moscoso, was going to be dismissed from his position, and indicated that an appointment has been set for February 1 to hold a broad dialogue in order to listen and attend to the pertinent requests of the workers. Among the issues that will be analyzed are various sentences in the workplace that the workers ask to be complied with. One of them is that of salary homologation and another on an issue of occupational safety.

jinsop martinez He assured the workers that an agreement had been reached with Ponce and that a sign of the commitment assumed by the Government in response to their demands was precisely its presence in the sector. He celebrated that he disassociated himself with “That official who has done us so much harm,” referring to Moscoso. He also thanked the mediation he had done Richard Gómez, president of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT) and also representative of the workers before the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS), for the rapprochement with Ponce.

No mention was made of the request that had been made days ago to separate from the position as well to the manager of Petroecuador, Hugo Aguiar. The workers had indicated that Aguiar has no oil knowledge. On the subject, the Minister of Energy, Fernando Santos, had subscribed to the discussion saying that with the salary paid to the manager of Petroecuador, one cannot ask for more. He acknowledged that Aguiar does not meet the requirements to be the company’s general manager, but said that other experts would not come to take charge for that salary. In this sense, he colloquially commented that “You have to look for what the earth gives”. The manager’s salary is $6,210.

A few days ago, andhe President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, had requested the availability of all managers of public companies, in the midst of the scandal of the complaint called The Great Godfather, and considering that these managers were appointed by Hernán Luque. However, he has not yet made decisions such as accepting the resignation of any of them.

In any case, Petroecuador sent a statement on January 19 in which it indicated that it expressed its commitment to dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms. He also rejected “the de facto measure carried out by one of the company’s union organizations, as well as infiltrated individuals, outside the company.”

He also indicated that the The administration led by Hugo Aguiar has addressed the situation and issues that were postponed for years. Among them, provision of work clothes, safety footwear, replacement of the vehicle fleet and demand for labor rights for both workers and servers. (YO)
