Copper production grew 10.9% in the first nine months of the year

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through Mining Statistical Bulletin (WELL), national copper production grew 10.9% between January and September, compared to the same period last year.

While in 2020 the production of the red metal reached the figure of 1,514,058 fine metric tons, in the first months of the year it was 1,678,886.

The upturn in copper production was generated by higher production from the operations of Compañía Minera Antamina, Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde and Southern Peru, according to the BEM, prepared by the General Directorate of Mining Promotion and Sustainability of the MINEM.

Meanwhile, the brand new Mina Justa copper project – operated by the Marcobre company – had a production of 22,697 fine metric tons in September.

Other metals

Silver grew 3.7% in September in the year-on-year comparison, thanks to the performance of mining companies Antamina and Ares. In the case of tin, the increase was due to the better results of the Minsur company, the only company producing this metal in the country.
